The Atlantic Provinces Political Science Association (APPSA) invites proposals for its annual conference to be held at St. Francis Xavier University (StFX) in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, from October 22 to 24, 2021.
To confirm, APPSA plans to host an in-person conference. While Canada is currently experiencing a third wave of COVID-19, we anticipate significantly improved health conditions by fall 2021. Universities across the Atlantic region have announced plans for primarily in-person teaching in September 2021. StFX intends to open at normal capacity with some continuing regulations to safeguard against potential COVID-19 outbreaks. Quickly increasing rates of vaccination are shaping these optimistic outlooks.
Even so, APPSA is planning in uncertain conditions. Mutations of the virus may change the health forecast. Travel barriers could remain in place, preventing in-person participation of those outside the region or country. Depending on events in the coming months, the 2021 conference may need to switch to either an online or a hybrid in-person/online format. While we remain hopeful, APPSA must prepare for multiple contingencies.
The deadline for applications is July 2, 2021 [**REVISED**]. Please provide a paper title and a short abstract (maximum 250 words). All MA students interested in participating should include a short approval letter from their supervising faculty. Following APPSA precedent, there are no conference fees for graduate students (MAs/PhDs). Proposals for panels and workshops are welcome. All applications or inquiries can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
